evaluation of preliminary task

Before starting filming our childrens film we completed a short preliminary task. This consisted of creating a short film allowing us to practise basic shots, camerawork and software use. We began by planning our work with scripts, storyboards and shot lists.
In this task we had a good opportunity to practice different shot types and angles including over the shoulder, extreme close ups and low and high angles for power position.
We also also had a chance to use continuity editing to make the piece flow. This was especially effective with match on action shot which we had not used before and the shot-reverse shot used during the conversation. Although we succeeded in the following the 180degree rule during the conversation part of our sequence, we did break it before this. This will enforce the need to ensure we follow this in the future.
Overall the task has helped us to master some basic skills, understand where we went wrong and allow us to improve our method and technique for our next project.
